“I have always been interested in using and testing new technology, and since we use a considerable amount of time on the Danish roads, it was a natural step for me to take a closer look at the current development in mobile products”, says Niels Svane.
The most important thing for Niels Svane is that the new products are easy and intuitive to use. “Technology should help us become more effective with our work and not be time-consuming”. Niels Svane found an easy and usable solution in FleetTrip, a Commentor product, which is simply a mileage logging solution built upon navigation software from TomTom.
Via FleetTrip one can easily save data from one’s driven kilometres and thereafter transfer the data to a custom made excel spreadsheet. The spreadsheet follows Danish regulations, which means the appraiser need only send an e-mail to the bookkeeping.
The solution was originally developed in Microsoft .NET Compact Framework on Microsoft Windows Mobile 2003 and MS Office 2003, but has now been transferred to Microsoft Windows Mobile 5.0.
“This solution saves an average of 2-3 hours each month for each employee. Furthermore, I can be assured the data comes from the PDA”, concludes Niels Svane.
